Zoe and Jon's Laid back, Boho Chic wedding at East Aurora's Knox Farms Historic Estate | Buffalo Wedding Photographer

Photos by Dawn M Gibson Photography

In contrast to their snowy, at-home engagement session last winter, Zoe and Jon were married on what felt like one of the hottest days all year, exchanging vows under a grand tree on the property of the estate at Knox Farms in East Aurora, NY this September.

With fans and music on full blast in the morning, Zoe got ready with her side of the party in an upstairs bridal suite, while Jon and his guys prepped in a room on the first floor. Once dressed – Jon in his custom-made suit from Bureau and Zoe in a boho-style dress from Lovely Bride – they shared an intimate first look, followed by an exchange of love notes to one another (Zoe’s note to Jon was actually a notebook she had been filling in for the past year when they lived on opposite ends of the state). Guests arrived to the estate welcomed with large-scale printed signs of Zoe and Jon’s beloved fur baby, Olive, and hand-passed flutes of champagne as they took their seats for the ceremony. Zoe was walked down the isle by her brother, with her father’s coat and photo thoughtfully laid on the back of chair beside her mom, and all their siblings sharing special readings as everyone listened on with tears filling their eyes. It was a heartwarming ceremony that conveyed to all the love they have for one another and how much they both cherish those they love. After the ceremony, they celebrated with their guests over drinks and food catered by the Roycroft in an hors d’oeuvres style reception and late night food from Lloyd’s Food Truck. Plush couches from Quaint Rentals were set up on the lawn, and a beautifully decorated tent gathered everyone together to dance the night away with live music from the band, Geno McManus & Stoneflower.

After meeting while volunteering at Cradle Beach Camp in 2005, Zoe and Jon developed a friendship that later brought them together in love in 2009. They have spent most of the past almost decade of their relationship living apart from one another, which made their bond and love for one another even stronger, and consequently, made this wedding day even more special for them. This day not only marked the beginning of a new chapter for them becoming husband and wife, but it also was the start in their next life adventure: selling their home in the Allentown area of Buffalo (where Zoe has lived solo most of the last year) to embark on a grand move across the country, together (where Jon’s job has them now resettled in Pasedena). Needless to say, this wedding day was a long time coming; well worth the wait but simultaneously highly anticipated by all those who know and love them.

Congratulations again, Zoe and Jon! It was an honor to be a part of your day and I can’t wish you both enough happiness as you soak up husband and life in tandem with all the sunshine and new experiences California has to offer!

Ashleigh + Nolan's Classic and Elegant Buffalo Wedding | Buffalo and WNY Wedding Photographer

Photos by Dawn M Gibson Photography

There is something about a classic, black tie wedding during the month of October that will forever make me swoon, and Ashleigh and Nolan's late October 2017 wedding at Hotel @ the Lafayette was everything I could have ever dreamed of photographing and so much more. The entire day from start to finish was laid back yet perfectly polished, their ceremony was incredibly touching and the dance floor was PACKED with family and friends having the time of their lives all night long. I'm so excited to share a small glimpse into their wedding day with you today, along with a few words from the bride and groom on their experience as well!

How would you describe your wedding vision/theme?

The vision we had for our wedding was to keep it classic and timeless. We decided on ivory and black with silver and gold touches for our color theme. I would chose to live in the past if I could, so there was no better place than the Lafayette to offer that classic feel. The marble hallways, original detailed tile flooring, hard wood floor ballroom, beautiful chandeliers with 20+ foot ceilings and the ornate details really just speak for themselves. The venue leaves you speechless without any wedding decor. Add in the candles, lighting and formal seating - and there's nothing more I could even ask for. I had a vision of the whole bridal party in black with just the white dress, and I think that this theme came out flawless. The girls all chose their own dress and designer, the boys wore black tuxedos with the bow tie, suspenders and ivory pocket square. Everything came together perfectly for our theme!

Favorite moments/memories from the wedding?

Walking down the aisle is every little girl's dream I think. Dad on the arm, family and friends filling the church, and the most perfect groom standing at the end of the aisle smiling. That moment I will not forget, ever.

Seeing the room for the first time before the guests entered was amazing. After all the time and effort put in to planning and organizing, I almost cried when I saw it. It was just beautiful and everything I wanted it to be. I also really enjoyed Nolan's reaction because I don't think he knew my vision of the reception until he saw it in person and he was blown away!

Also - the dance floor!!! I don't think I left the dance floor for more than a minute or two at a time, and it was always packed. This was one of my big concerns about the wedding - I needed a fun dance floor! And a fun dance floor is exactly what we got :) Great music and always a ton of people dancing all night long!

Do you have any recommendations for future couples planning a wedding?

It will be stressful, but it will also be worth it. Take on tasks one at a time to avoid being overwhelmed, plus checking things off your list will make you feel better than having a bunch of things half complete. Enjoy every minute of engaged life while you are planning! Its a journey that you only get to do once :)

Brittany + Joel's Larkin Square and Hydraulic Hearth Wedding Celebration | Buffalo Wedding Photographer

Brittany + Joel's Wedding Day | Photos by Dawn M Gibson Photography

Sometimes in wedding planning, things don't always go as originally planned. Brittany and Joel unexpectedly needed to change their wedding date a few times over the course of their engagement. Their last change in wedding dates came with only a few weeks notice, and I firmly believe that it was without a doubt the day meant to be their wedding day. Britt and Joel's incredible family, friends and wedding party members helped pull together all the last minute details needed to make their wedding day a complete success in just 2 weeks time, including finding a new location for their ceremony and celebration. Vendors who were still available switched dates without hesitation, and other vendors who were needed last minute filled in like rockstars. Friends and family dropped plans and came from near and far to be witness as they said their I do's and celebrate along side them the whole night through. And most important of all, Brittany was able to walk down the isle with her dad by her side and Joel was blessed by signs of his brother watching over them throughout the entire day. It was an emotional day filled with tears and laughter, and above all, so, so much love. It was perfect in every sense of the definition, and it is such an honor to provide Britt and Joel photographic memories of their wedding day that will be cherished for years to come.

Before diving into the photos, a few words from the bride + groom:

How would you describe your wedding vision/theme? Our theme was rustic and chic but I would also say it was love and family. Our wedding coordinator, Jess, really took care of making the day beautiful and following the theme Hydraulic already has going on with a little extra sparkle.

Favorite moments/memories from the wedding? Britt: I have shot a lot weddings with Dawn over the years and always felt like the first dances were pretty but just more for the tradition aspect. Joel and I picked a song for our first dance that may be a little uncommon but we love it!! (Only Wanna Be With You - unplugged by Samm Henshaw) It just such a romantic song and says a lot about us. We've been together for 9 years, he's my best friend, we're there for each other through everything, all the time, no matter what. This song represents that. I never imagined that our first dance would mean so much to me but it did. Everyone we loved around us clapping along. It made for a perfect start to a perfect night! My first dance with my dad was something i'll never forget. We chose the song together (Isn't She Lovely by Stevie Wonder) and practiced dancing in the living room for fun a few days prior (where he told me i needed to step my dance game up before the big day haha). On the big day we danced our little hearts out and had a surprise for the guests at the end! We had our favorite song come on (S.O.B. by Nathanial Rateliff and the Night Sweats). This may seem like an odd song choice but we know every word and wanted to start the dance party off right that night! Overall, the dancing all night was my absolute favorite part of the day....can we do it again soon??? // Joel: I have a few favorites from the big day, starting with the first look before the ceremony. It was extremely hard not to turn around when I heard Britt coming but when I did she blew my expectations away!! I was happy to have some time to ourselves to soak everything in. People say your wedding day flies by and it does so take any opportunity you can!

Do you have any recommendations for future couples planning a wedding? Don't take the day too seriously. In the end the whole day is supposed to be fun. There is a lot of pressure to make the day over the top or to make everyone happy. Take a breath and realize that the day is about celebrating the couple and nothing else matters. We planned a majority of the wedding in just 2 weeks and it was hectic at times but one of the best decisions we could have ever made. Our main goal for our wedding day was to have a great night filled with dancing, drinks and memories to last a lifetime. Some of the best moments of the day were the ones that were unplanned. For example when the limo broke down, we found a school bus on the side of the road, bribed the driver $$$ haha and sped to the ceremony. Things that seemed a little chaotic at the time are the funny moments to look back on. We had a ball and that's all that matters!

Viewer's Choice Award for 2016 Wedding Couples!

The last few years I've tried to make it a priority to show my appreciation to my clients for their trust in me as their wedding photographer through little extras, special thank you cards, and even a random selection giveaway for a complimentary wedding album! This year, I will be giving away yet another wedding album, but instead of the winner being selected at random, this year's giveaway winner will be selected based off of viewer votes in my first-ever Viewer's Choice Award!

To get right to it... I've gone through all my 2016 weddings and have selected one photo of each couple's wedding day for voting on. One couple did have two wedding days, but for the sake of keeping things fair, only one image has been posted. So there are 23 couples in total for voting on.

Anyone with access to the internet and a social media or google account are eligible to vote, and I'm not asking for anything crazy like needing to like all my social media pages (though if you want to, I can be found here on facebook and on instagram I'm @dawnmgibson_photo). In order for your vote to count, you just have to leave a comment on this post.

Leave a comment below this post with the photo number or name of the couple pictured in the image you'd like to vote on, anytime between February 1st and February 12th, 2017 @ midnight EST. You can only vote for an individual image once, however if you wish to vote for multiple couple's images, you can. And yes, sharing news of this giveaway is highly encouraged!

Only the comments made on this this post will be counted when selecting a winner! In other words, any comments made on Facebook or Instagram promotions of this contest WILL NOT be included in a final tally of numbers to select the winning couple.

Having trouble leaving a comment?

You may be asked to login in order to leave a comment. The default selected is to login via Squarespace, however, if you look above the login area, you will also see icons for other areas to login from – such as Google+, Twitter, and Facebook. Any of these options are fine. If you don't have any of these and/or are still experiencing issues (certain devices/operating systems appear to be having issues), please email me your name and votes at info@dawnmgibsonphotography.com and I will add it to the comment thread for you.

One lucky couple with the most votes for their photo will receive a complimentary 8x8, 10-page layflat wedding album for themselves or to give as a gift to a parent! Should the winning couple not be interested in the album, then the couple with the second highest number of votes will be awarded the winning goods. In the event of a tie, one winner will be chosen at random.

In addition, those who take the time to place a vote will be entered into a random selection drawing to win a $25 gift card to a coffee shop of their choosing. Who doesn't love a little free coffee?

Voting for this contest will end February 12th, 2017 @ midnight EST. The winning couple and one lucky voter will be announced in a story on instagram (@dawnmgibson_photo) on Monday, February 13th – just in time for a little extra Valentine's Day love!

LET THE VOTING BEGIN.... Best of luck to all the couples!

*** If you do not have a Google, Twitter, or Facebook account to login with or if you experience login issues when attempting to comment below, please email me YOUR name and names of the couple(s) you're voting for at info@dawnmgibsonphotography.com and I will add it to the comment thread for you.
